Age Limit: The race-course is open only for people over 18 years of age.
Horses: There are around 700 horses in training. The horses come from
Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, France, United States,
Canada, Argentina, Japan and Singapore. Horses are purchased by
Members, so Horse Owners must become Members first and they are

required to purchase horses according to a private purchase scheme. In
the 2006/2007 racing season, 300 horse permits (W-Brand) were available
for Members.
Stables: There are 18 air-conditioned stable blocks providing 1,256 stalls for
horses in training. The quarantine stable which has been fully
renovated and upgraded to meet international standards has a capacity
of 60 horses. There is also an air-conditioned spelling stable that has
a capacity of 28 horses. There are separate stables for retired horses
and for the Riding School. All stable personnel, except Trainers, are
on Club's payroll and all stable facilities are owned and managed by
the Club. The Club provides training facilities including fodder and
vet care.
Racing Complex: The Racing Complex is the racing centre of the Macau Jockey Club. The
six-storey building can accommodate 3,000 people and is situated in
between the Grandstand and the Administration Building. Located on the
ground floor of the Racing Complex are the Weighing Room, Enquiry Room,
Jockeys' Room, and the Trainers' and Racing Officials' Room. The
Diamond Vision Control Room is on the 4th floor together with the TV
and Broadcasting Control Centres. Racing commentators are housed on the
roof of the Racing Complex. On the 1st floor is the 1/F Suite, while
the second, fourth and fifth floor are all Horse Owners' boxes, with
two boxes for the Judiciary Police and the Macau Gaming Inspection and
Coordination Bureau on the second floor. The Macau SAR Chief Executive
Box, Government Official Box, Chairman's Box, Directors' Box and the
Honorary Members' Box are all furnished on the third floor.
Grand Stand: The five-storey Grandstand is open for the public. The press box is
situated at the Grandstand. Maximum capacity of the Grandstand is
15,000.
Distance of Races: The races of the Macau Jockey Club are conducted in a clockwise
direction. The most common distances for turf races are: Short
distances 1000M, 1100M and 1200M, Middle distances 1400M, 1500M, 1700M
and long distances of 1800M and 2000M. The most frequent distances for
sand races are 1000M, 1050M, 1300M, 1500M, 1600M and 1700M. The
distance 1300M on sand is a middle distance race introduced in the
1999/2000 Racing Season.
Betting Types
On-Course Betting: There are over 230 betting terminals on-course. All terminals can perform sell and pay functions. Punters may bet in Hong Kong dollars or
Macau patacas. Bets are accepted up to the start of each race. Punters
may place a bet by oral instructions or by filling a ticket.
Off-Course Betting: There are over 80 betting terminals in the Off-Course Betting
Centres.12 Off-course Betting Centres are located in popular districts
of Macau. If necessary, the MJC would set up more Off-Course Betting
Centres for racegoers.
Internet Betting: The internet betting service commenced on 20 September 2003. Customers
are welcome to browse through the Club's internet betting website at
www.macauhorsebet.com
Telephone Services: There are 600 telephone service terminals and over 39,800 telebet
accounts. The winning dividend of account holders may at their
instructions be automatically transferred to their bank accounts. For
enquiries and opening of telephone service accounts, patrons are
welcome to call at 88631338 (Macau).
Fast Access Terminals (FAT): Launched in June 1997, the personal betting terminal, FAT (Fast Access
Terminal) offers betting, calculation of bet units, record tracking of
bets, account enquiry, withdrawal instructions and other related
information on races such as declaration and race-odds. Around 1,000
customers are currently using FAT.
