How do I get my Hong Kong ID?
Thanks in advanced for answers to this question. Background: First, I was born in San Francisco, California. My mom and dad were born in Hong Kong but spent most of their lives in California. I moved to Shenzhen, China about a year ago. I have a US passport with a Chinese "L" Tourist Visa. I'm back and forth between Shenzhen and Hong Kong so much, that I had to add more pages to my passport and it's so annoying too. I love the benefits of having a HK ID, such as being able to go in and out of China and Macau, being able to get a one year Chinese visa instead of 6 month, etc etc. How do I go about obtaining getting a HK ID? My mother wants to reclaim her HK ID/citizenship next time she comes here. Can I get sponsored by her for one even though I wasn't born in HK?

where to stay better, new territory or tsim sha tsui, HK?
i've been to tsim sha tsui this month. i stayed there for 4 days. it was great. 7 eleven are walking distances from my hotel. the ferry terminal to macau is a walking distant too. the biggest mall, harbour plaza, MTR, street and night markets all are just a couple minutes away from where i stayed. i planned to stay there this october. but my friend who always stays at the new territories, particularly in causeway bay, says it better in new territories. i've been to the new territories on my way to the ocean park, it think they have higher buildings there, but more traffic. i have never made a tour or shopping there though. in your opinion, which is the better place to stay? in new territories or in tsim sha tsui? oh yeah, sorry... i meant new territories (tsim sha tsui0 or hongkong island... thanks

Is Macau is a good place to stay?
My parents were from Macau, and I lived in Macau for several years. But it's been a very long time since I visited there, and with all the casino developments and the increase in the number of mainland visitors, I'm sure it's a very different place now. Is it overall safe, a good place to stay? I'm planning to go there this winter break to visit family.

Philosophical Question: boycott China as a travel destination?
I was thinking about going to Macau or HongKong or Shanghai or Beijing as a travel destination, when I realized something - I really love the teachings of the Dalai Lama even though I'm not a Buddhist in any formal sense, and I have a lot of compassion for the terrible suffering the Chinese have inflicted on his people and land. When I think about it more, it angers me that the Chinese government will not speak with him, that they call him a terrorist, slam other countries for talking to him, and will not even discuss the possibility of Tibet being a culturally distinct specially governed autonomous region even within the context of remaining a part of China. F@#$% pricks in that government piss me off. That old guy gives nothing but good to the world. What the hell? Is the next logical step then to spend my money on another country for my travel destination? I'm close enough that I could get a comparable deal on a great package tour for just about any of the other many East Asian countries. Is turning down China for this reason being excessive or being consistent?

Cheapest way from Shanghai to Bangkok?
Hey everyone, I'm going to be in Shanghai and I want to know what the cheapest way to get to Bangkok is. From what I can see, I can fly direct for about $300, however there are flights for about $125 from Macau. The problem is that I would have to travel down there, which adds 1.5 travel days to my trip. Does anyone know of a better way to get to Bangkok? What cities in China fly cheap to Thailand? Thanks!!

Is visiting Macau for families?
Macau vacation tour suitable for families? Thinking of taking my wife and baby on a short vacation to Macau, (I'm interested in it for the history side of things) but I'm doubtful - I wonder if we'd be out of place there? Somebody told me Macau is known for gambling and hookers. Neither of those appeal to me. Should I pass over Macau in favor of someplace else then?

Reunification with China will be a gradual and orderly process, just like it has been for Hong Kong and Macau. Americans in Taiwan will undoubtedly be able to keep their jobs, so why the fear of job loss?
